The kids in the picture are mine - Joshua and Hope. They are truly one of God's greatest gifts. In February of this year it will be 14 years ago that we brought Joshua into our home at the age of one and a half. It was clear from the start that our family is where God intended him to be. Our daughter joined us 3 years later and brought with her a lot of spunk.
Being a parent and watching your kids grow is full of joys as you watch them learn new things, become independent, and see how they are so incredibly and uniquely made. It also brings struggles as they push the limits and your patience and they remind you of your own flaws and sinfulness.
Most importantly though, parenting reminds me of the magnificence of my God. I see in my children His creativity, His joy, and His love. He made them (and each of us) completely unique, but all in His image. He gave us, through His Son and His love the ability to experience joy and love on a daily basis. And, through our shortcomings brings us to see the necessity for His Son, so that we may eternally be a part of His family.
As I start the new year, my prayer is that I would look into their eyes each day and, no matter whether it is a good day or a bad day, I would see Him, fall at His feet and join Him in whatever He has laid before me.
